In January, 1996, the LaFollette Book Club conceived the idea of a local Friends of the Library group to involve more citizens in the development and improvement of the library.

If you like books and libraries and want the best possible library for LaFollette, please consider joining this non-profit volunteer citizens’ group.

Memberships range from $2.50 for students to $1,000.00 for corporate platinum. There are also lifetime memberships available.

If you are interested, please contact the Library Director for more information and a membership form. If you prefer, you may call the library at (423)562-5154.  Current officers for the Friends of the Library are  Clyde Green, Acting President and Treasurer; and Eunice Reynolds, Secretary.  Meetings are held in the library at 5:00 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month.  The next meeting will be on January 20, 2010. Please come join us.

We are hoping to build a new library for the citizens of LaFollette.  We are looking for ways to raise money for this effort, and we need help.  If you would like to join this worthy cause, please contact the library or any member of the Friends group.

Our Hobo Dinner held on April 5 was a huge success.  The menu consisted of pinto beans, cornbread, onion, coleslaw, peach cobbler, and a drink.  Quite a meal for a hobo!!  We want to thank the following contributors for their help and donations that made this meal a success:

Campbell County School system and the LaFollette Elementary School cafeteria manager Francis Smith and assistant, Karen Bostic, Ellison Sanitary Supply, Food Lion, Food City, Wal-Mart, IGA, LaFollette Signs, Creative Signs, United Grocery Outlet, Save-A-Lot, Hollingsworth Super Market, Big Creek Market, George Roy Shell, Rice Oil, Woodson’s Exxon, and Scot Market.  We also thank each and every one of you for your attendance at the dinner, for your donations, your membership dues, and your support in other ways.

We netted a total of $762.00 on the dinner itself.  We have collected $680.00 in dues, $592.00 in donations, and $539.00 in ticket sales for the beautiful quilt we gave away.  The winner of the quilt was Hansford Hatmaker.
